چکیده
Electrostaticmicroelectromechanicalsystems (MEMS) actuators suffer from an instability called pull-in, wherein the movable electrode snaps onto fixed beyond a certain applied voltage. Thus, entire allowed range is not utilized for stable operation. We propose pull-in free, low-voltage operation by using cubic nonlinear spring with ferroelectric negative-capacitance hybrid MEMS actuator. use physics-based framework based on energy landscape to illustrate stability improvement. This uses energy–displacement and voltage–displacement plots analysis. predict that actuator can operate in three distinct modes: 1) monostable; 2) bistable; 3) always-stable, value of constant. also estimate threshold values constant demarcate modes By proper choice constant, we actuator, when compared standalone The results obtained are agreement numerical simulations. work will aid design electrostatic applications without instability.

متن کاملNonlinear Parameter Identification of a Resonant Electrostatic MEMS Actuator
We experimentally investigate the primary superharmonic of order two and subharmonic of order one-half resonances of an electrostatic MEMS actuator under direct excitation. We identify the parameters of a one degree of freedom (1-DOF) generalized Duffing oscillator model representing it. The experiments were conducted in soft vacuum to reduce squeeze-film damping, and the actuator response was ...

There is a rising interest in employing the negative capacitance (NC) effect to achieve sub-60 mV/ decade (below the thermal limit) switching in field-effect transistors (FETs). The NC effect, which is an effectual amplification of the applied gate potential, is realized by incorporating a ferroelectric material in series with a dielectric in the gate stack of a FET. One of the leading challeng...
متن کاملEmergence of Negative Capacitance in Multidomain Ferroelectric-Paraelectric Nanocapacitors at Finite Bias.
The emergence of negative capacitance in an ultrathin ferroelectric/paraelectric bilayer capacitor under electrical bias is examined using first-principles simulation. An antiferroelectric-like behavior is predicted, and negative capacitance is shown to emerge when the monodomain state becomes stable after bias application. The polydomain-monodomain transition is also shown to be a source of ca...
متن کاملModeling of capacitance and sensitivity of a MEMS pressure sensor
In this paper modeling of capacitance and sensitivity for MEMS capacitive pressure sensor is presented. In capacitive sensor the sensitivity is proportional to deflection and capacitance changes versus pressure. Therefore first the diaphragm displacement, capacitance and sensitivity of sensor with square diaphragm have been modeled and then simulated using finite element method (FEM). It can b...
